Our president wasn't satisfied with the decoration in the Oval Office and chose to redo the office. Perhaps the carpet was worn out or too dirty because of their garden and kids. Maybe the seats were soiled by the dog. Obviously, the rest of us can wait till we can afford to replace our own carpets since we have to pay for it and the Obama's have our taxes to help them through this tough economic time. So, how well did they do?
President Obama
selected the
following five
historical quotes
for the rug:
"The Only Thing We Have to Fear is Fear Itself" -- President Franklin D. Roosevelt
"The Arc of the Moral Universe is Long, But it Bends Towards Justice" -- Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Government of the People, By the People, For the People" -- President Abraham Lincoln
"No Problem of Human Destiny is Beyond Human Beings" - President John F. Kennedy
"The Welfare of Each of Us is Dependent Fundamentally Upon the Welfare of All of Us" --
President Theodore RooseveltLet's take them one at a time.
"The Only Thing We Have to Fear is Fear Itself" -- President Franklin D. Roosevelt
This is pure foolishness that is handed down as fact. This flies in the face of pure scriptural teaching that is a wealth of truth destroying this ridiculous statement.
Job 28:28 And he said to man, `The fear of the Lord--that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.'"
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
We currently have lost the fear of the LORD. Believe it or not, this is the most dangerous thing our nation faces today. It is easy to dismiss such a claim as absurd, yet when we analyze our state from the standpoint of what leads to each of our problems, we find they all are rooted in this truth. To get this one foundational point wrong has led to our broken nation as we see today.Should we fear the Democrats? The terrorists? Fear itself? No. We should fear God. As Christ said, we should fear Him, He is the one who has the power to send us to Hell.
Luke 12:5 But I will show you whom you should fear : Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell . Yes, I tell you, fear him.
When we fear God, only then can we not fear other things. Nothing significant can harm us when we have a relationship with Christ. No one can take away our salvation. Even death is acceptable and even welcome when it happens. When we please Him, we have no reason to fear Him. When we stray, we invite His righteous, fearful judgment, helping awaken some to seek salvation.
"The Arc of the Moral Universe is Long, But it Bends Towards Justice"
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.Well, first, on the rug this is incorrectly credited to Martin Luther King, Jr. as the original author was Theodore Parker in the 1850's. Isn't it interesting how Michele Obama's statement during the election said that they were going to change our history. How does one change our history except with lies? True history is a fact. Revisionist history is agenda driven, ignoring the truth, to our own detriment.
“We’re going to have to make sacrifices, we’re going to have to change our conversation, we’re going to have to change our traditions, our history and we’re going to have to move to a different place.” Michele Obama http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59twO1fJwtQ
The quote flies in the face of truth. Why are their more killed in wars in the 20th century than in all the other centuries? We continue to pretend we are improving. We think all the effort and expense put into fixing these things is of some value. Yet, we keep looking at the mess and ask
"why?". In fact, unless the arc is very wavy we find it bending away from justice.Unfortunately, the premise this statement is based on is man-centered and is not borne out by the facts. Slavery is more prevalent now in the world than it was previously.
There simply is no justice outside God's direction and His blessing. As we have departed from Him in this nation, we have a floating set of laws to be used only as those in power wish to use them. The blindfold is raised as the Justice Department chooses when to apply the laws, based on biases and political expediency. Congress has also boxed individuals into so many conflicting laws that there is no way to avoid breaking these arbitrary laws. Justice? Not here.Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule , the people groan.
By the way, as the Declaration of Independence says, it becomes not only our right but also our duty that we overthrow such tyrannical injustice.
"Government of the People, By the People, For the People" -- President Abraham Lincoln
This quote is decent. Unfortunately, Lincoln presided over a war that killed hundreds of thousands of Americans by other Americans. Reparations to the black population? What more of a price is appropriate? Hundreds of thousands of our ancestors paid the enormous price for freedom for those being oppressed.
This connotes all the people, not just select groups. Does Obama feel it is for the unborn? Is it applied equally across all groups of citizens? As applied, it merely is another lie that Obama's feet will walk on.
"No Problem of Human Destiny is Beyond Human Beings" - President John F. Kennedy
This is most ungodly. As in the quote incorrectly credited to MLK, Jr., it is simply factually incorrect. The love in this world is not improving, in fact it is worsening. Without God, we lack a moral compass to direct our decisions and actions. Our arbitrary or self-centered decision making leads to injustice. In Revelation, the scriptures teach the opposite. We know the world system will finally lead to complete rejection of God and the just destruction of those who choose this route. Sorry, Barak, you became a victim of foolishness. Our founders knew the pure stupidity of such a statement.
For example:
No people ought to feel greater obligations to celebrate the goodness of the Great Disposer of Events and of the Destiny of Nations than the people of the United States. His kind providence originally conducted them to one of the best portions of the dwelling place allotted for the great family of the human race. He protected and cherished them under all the difficulties and trials to which they were exposed in their early days. Under His fostering care their habits, their sentiments, and their pursuits prepared them for a transition in due time to a state of independence and self-government. In the arduous struggle by which it was attained they were distinguished by multiplied tokens of His benign interposition. During the interval which succeeded He reared them into the strength and endowed them with the resources which have enabled them to assert their national rights and to enhance their national character in another arduous conflict,
which is now so happily terminated by a peace and reconciliation with those who have been our enemies. And to the same Divine Author of Every Good and Perfect Gift we are indebted for all those priviledges and advantages, religious as well as civil, which are so richly enjoyed in this favored land.
James Madison
We feel with you the strongest obligations to adore the Invisible Hand which has led the American People through so many difficulties, to cherish a conscious responsibility for the destiny of republican liberty; and to seek the only sure means of preserving and recommending the precious deposite in a system of legislation founded on the principles of an honest policy....
All that remains is, that we join in our fervent supplications for the blessings of Heaven on our country, and that we add our own for the choicest of these blessings on the most beloved of her citizens.George Washington
Many others are found here. Our founders knew our success and strength came only though God's blessings. Not through any greatness of our citizens alone.
"The Welfare of Each of Us is Dependent Fundamentally Upon the Welfare of All of Us"
-- President Theodore RooseveltFactually, this is lacking. Does Warren Buffett's welfare fundamentally depend on all the rest of us? No. Some of us, yes, to a point. He has enough to take care of himself and many others without caring about mine or many other's welfare, if he so chooses. Of course, there is a smidgeon of truth in this statement with an overall agreement in the general concept. Yet, is this being elevated as one of the 5 best quotes in the Oval Office.
Of course, it makes sense with this president. He chose this statement of his distorted version of Christianity (Black Liberation Theology) that supports his political goals and his belief that Caucasians owe reparations and his purpose to redistribute wealth to many who have never done anything for it. Wealth he doesn't own and he never did anything deserving of accepting such stolen resources from others.
On the other hand, it is important for each of us to be recognized as valuable. Even the least of us, including the unborn and the handicapped are important to support. Each of us contribute to the spiritual welfare of others, in a positive or negative sense. It is interesting how Obama's misunderstanding the truth of such a statement comes with his bias. The welfare of each of us is greatly dependent on the way our society treats others and how life is valued, even those lives that do not seem worthwhile. Yet when it is seen in a financial sense, much how Obama has shown how he interprets it, the statement becomes absurd.
In all, Obama chose ungodly quotes to put in the Oval Office rug, exemplifying his spiritual bankruptcy and portraying how far we have fallen. Will we repent and seek God? Will we rely on human abilities and human destiny to prove once again how mankind cannot succeed on his own? Our founders understood our absolute need of God. Our citizens also understood this to a degree. Students would take guns to school for ROTC and would keep them in their lockers. They were not a threat as they better understood right and wrong. We are moving away from that and finding our world become more dangerous and depressing.
